Organisers say the ultra-marathon has attracted a record number of participants this year. And of the more than 230 athletes representing 35 countries in the 100km race, Kerry is reportedly one of only three top South African runners who has been chosen to represent our Rainbow Nation.
The Pietermaritzburg-based runner flew off to The Netherlands this week. The blonde, beautiful high-performance runner is credited with five Comrades Marathon finishes, having scooped a gold medal for ninth position in this year’s race. Previous Comrades races saw her bagging a Silver as well as three Bill Rowan medals.
Race Director of the Comrades Marathon Association, Johan van Staden says: ‘We are very pleased that Miss Koen can represent our country at this prestigious international race. She has proven herself in the world’s biggest ultra-marathon - our very own Ultimate Human Race - and we have every confidence that she will make us proud at the IAU Championships. We wish her well.’
