Media personality Simon Gear to spearhead the Starfish Greathearts 2012 Comrades campaign
The Starfish Greathearts 2012 Comrades Campaign will be fronted by popular tv and radio personality Simon Gear. Over the last 15 years Simon has become a well-known ultra-distance runner and media personality, this year he is extending his charity work by becoming an official Starfish Greathearts Comrades Ambassador.
“When we approached Simon late last year to be involved with the Starfish Greathearts Foundation, he didn’t hesitate but to ask how he could be involved,” says Taryn Curtis, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Starfish.
“Through our Greathearts campaign we utilise major public events like the Comrades ultra-marathon to fundraise for Starfish and this year we have many exciting announcements that will be made in the lead up to the event which will make fundraising easier and more fun by utilising social media channels and mass media for even greater public participation.
“The first element of our campaign is to announce Simon as our first official Ambassador for the Starfish Greathearts Foundation. We believe someone of Simon’s social stature will elevate our organisation to a higher level and take our fundraising effort to new heights.”
Simon Gear, Starfish Greathearts Ambassador, says, “The Starfish Greathearts campaign appealed to me as they have a long standing and proud relationship with the Comrades Marathon. I ran my first Comrades in 1997 and I have always wanted to make running Comrades even more meaningful and hopefully I will now be able to do so.”
Starfish Greathearts Foundation aims to bring life, hope and opportunity to children orphaned and/or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
