More than 300 pairs of running shoes were donated to the Ethembeni School and the Community Chest by generous Comrades Marathon runners from Brazil.
The amazing initiative is the brainchild of Nato Amaral, the Comrades International Brand Ambassador in Brazil. Nato has been spearheading the shoe donation project for the third year now.
The new and used running shoes have been earmarked for distribution to learners, community members and underprivileged runners. CMA Chairperson, Cheryl Winn thanked the runners for their generosity saying, “Transporting these shoes from Brazil to South Africa over a distance of more than 7770km is testament to the giving spirit of our Brazilian Comrades runners. We are just extremely grateful to these athletes for living out the Comrades spirit and continuing to give back in meaningful ways to the people of South Africa.”
Over the past few years, Brazilian runners have been part of the Top 3 international contingents participating in the Comrades Marathon.
