The Comrades Marathon Wall of Honour is situated at the Halfway mark of the race, where the road overlooks the Valley of a Thousand Hills, and has become a landmark for runners and tourists alike.
It was created several years ago to commemorate the achievements of Comrades Marathon runners who have completed the epic journey between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Any runner who has successfully completed the Comrades Marathon is eligible for a plaque, and runners who have run more than 10 comrades will have their plaque made in green, instead of the standard yellow. A plaque on The Wall of Honour costs R450 and this includes the block it is mounted onto, the plaque and printing, as well as maintenance and upkeep of the space you are allocated.
The plaque is printed with the name & race number of the runner and can be purchased by the runners themselves, or by family members or friends, making it a lovely gift option for the Comrades fan. Plaques are also bought as memorial items by families who have lost their loved one.
Runners who already have a plaque on the wall and who go on to achieve their Green Number status can upgrade their plaques to the green background. This applies for those who have achieved their 20th, 30th or 40th runs. With each milestone we will add the additional laurels with the number of runs in the centre of the wreath (this only applies to Green Number runners).
The upgrade of the plaque costs R225. Please note that only one plaque per finisher is permitted and that runners are not permitted to share a single plaque.
