Runners from the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands have been urged to be part of the fun and excitement of community running this November. The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) will host the 11th edition of its corporate social investment initiative on Sunday, 12 November 2017.
The annual 10km Greater Edendale Race has been hosted in the Edendale community since 2007. The event is supported by the Msunduzi Municipality and the uMsunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association (MPTA).
The FNB Wadley Stadium in Georgetown, Edendale will serve as the both the Start and Finish venues. The race starts at 07h30 with entry fees as follows:
- 10km: R40.00 for licensed runners
- 10km: R55.00 for unlicensed runners includes temporary licence
The cut-off time is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Entrants must be 14 years or older. R21,000 in prize money and an array of lucky draw prizes are up for grabs. T-shirts will be awarded to the first 600 finishers while all finishers will receive a medal.
Entries are currently being taken at Comrades Marathon House – 18 Connaught Road in Scottsville between 09h00 and 16h00, Monday to Friday, until Thursday, 9 November 2017. Entries will also be taken on race day at the FNB Wadley Stadium from 05h00 to 07h00.
Adequate safety provisions are in place to ensure a day of running enjoyment. Safety and security will be overseen by SAPS and the local traffic police. The organisers will also deploy 25 marshals and additional security guards for duty on the day.
