Petros Sosibo Passed

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is saddened by news of the death of Comrades gold medallist, Petros Sosibo, last week. He was 49 years old.

Sosibo was a proud member of the Comrades Marathon Green Number Club, having been inducted onto the Green Number Roll of Honour in 2014. Since his first Comrades race in 2005, Sosibo went on to claim two Gold, 1 Wally Hayward and 8 Silver medals, running a total of 11 consecutive Comrades Marathons.

He ran for Fastway Athletics Club.

Sosibo has been described as a humble and well-liked athlete. His running performances speak for itself, with 11 successive Comrades and a personal best of 5:40:37 in the 2012 Comrades Marathon.

CMA Chairperson, Cheryl Winn says, “It is with a profound sense of sadness that we note the untimely passing of Mr Sosibo. He was certainly an athlete of stature, claiming 7th position in the 2010 Comrades and coming 10th in 2012. On behalf of the Comrades Marathon Association I extend our deepest condolences to all of his family, friends and loved ones.”
