"Your first Comrades should focus on the experience, rather than the race. This is an event that most people will do multiple times; and to do it well takes experience that you can only gain from being on the route." Such is the advice of Comrades Coach, Lindsey Parry as the Comrades Marathon Association’s marketing team presents its final Bonitas Comrades Novice Seminar in Durban on Thursday, 6 April 2017 at 132 Hollander Crescent, Morningside in Durban, courtesy of Savages Athletics Club.
The novice seminars which have been held around the country are aimed at getting first-time Comrades Marathon participants race-ready for Sunday - 4 June 2017. To this end, the Comrades Marathon Association has teamed up with major sponsor, Bonitas Medical Fund to assist such novice entrants to be better prepared.
At the seminars, relevant training information and advice from the Comrades Coach, Lindsey Parry and other experts, including a medical doctor and dietician are shared. Some of the topics include injury prevention; treatment of injuries; training; running shoes; tapering and race day strategies.
The medical doctor will advise on the dangers of taking medication whilst running. The dietician will cover runners’ nutrition, including what to eat and drink while training as well as race day sustenance.
Registered Dietician, Nicki de Villiers works with athletes and guides them to optimum nutrition to train well and achieve their running goals. Nicki has been working in the field of dietetics for around 20 years and has been concentrating on sports nutrition for the last 12 years.
These seminars are interactive and highly informative. Entry is free and bookings are not necessary.
