Following its recent Annual General Meeting held on Monday, 30 November 2020, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Board Chairperson paid tribute to two outgoing Board members, Adrian Stowell and Linda Hlongwa-Madlala.

Stowell had served the CMA with distinction in various capacities for over two decades, including as a former CMA Chairperson (for the years 1997-2000) as well as serving as Chairperson of the CMA Legal & Constitutional Committee during which period he contributed immensely in terms of providing his professional legal expertise, while Hlongwa-Madlala served as member of the CMA Board for two years, and for the past year as Chairperson of the Heritage & Traditions Committee.

CMA Chairperson Cheryl Winn acknowledged the honesty, integrity, decorum and conviction with which they had represented the Association, and thanked both members for their respective services to the Comrades Marathon.

In compliance with the CMA Constitution, the Annual General Meeting saw the election of two new members to the Board, namely:

  • Les Burnard
  • Phumlani Ntuli

And the re-election of three members, namely:

  • Celi Makhoba
  • Mqondisi Ngcobo
  • Steve Mkasi

The Board election process was overseen by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

With the CMA being founded as an Association, the main functions of the Board are ethical leadership, corporate governance, formulation of the strategic plan and policies of the organisation and ensuring the sustainability of The Ultimate Human Race. Importantly, the Board is further tasked with retaining the world-class standards, ethos and traditions that are synonymous with this iconic event.

The remaining Board members whose term of office will expire in November 2021 are:

  • Cheryl Winn
  • Isaac Ngwenya
  • Patricia Freeman
  • Zinhle Sokhela

Cheryl Winn was re-elected as Chairperson and Mqondisi Ngcobo as Vice Chairperson.

The complete CMA Board is therefore as follows:

  • Cheryl Winn, Chairperson
  • Mqondisi Ngcobo, Vice Chairperson
  • Celi Makhoba
  • Isaac Ngwenya
  • Les Burnard
  • Patricia Freeman
  • Phumlani Ntuli
  • Steve Mkasi

We’re Proudly Putting the Price Back in to MRP Sport

What’s your earliest memory of Mr Price Sport? Did you pop into your nearest store for a quick browse to see what we’re all about? Did you go for new gym get-up, or to bag a few sports essentials? Whichever way you’ve stayed active over the years, we’ve been cheering you on from the side-lines all along.

We’ve come a long way since we first opened our doors in 2006, and just like your active journey has evolved since that first Mr Price Sport experience, so has Mr Price Sport changed, grown and improved. Like any brand, we’ve experimented with a few subtle changes in recent years – including being just MRP Sport.

We’re now going back to the roots upon which our brand was built: Price. Value is at the heart of our business and we strive to add value in everything we do. At Mr Price Sport, we continually endeavour to bring South Africa (and beyond) quality active apparel and gear at the best price. Adding value by making an active lifestyle more affordable is who we are.

Mr Price Sport is your value champion. And now we’re putting the emphasis back on value, price and accessibility by returning to our origins: Mr Price Sport. After all, it’s how you know us best.

We are proudly Mr Price Sport.

My earliest and fondest memory of Mr Price Sport has got to be the original Pavilion store with cricket nets and the works. What better way to spend your time while your mum and sisters shopped the day away?” reminisces Mr Price Sport’s Head of Finance, Uzayr Gani.
