OUR VISION

To stage the biggest and best ultramarathon in the world and the most inclusive sporting event in South Africa.

OUR MISSION

The Comrades Marathon aims to achieve its vision through world-class race organisation, customer service and innovation, while retaining the ethos and traditions synonymous with the origins of the race in remembrance of protagonists in all conflicts including the struggle for freedom in South Africa.

OUR PURPOSE

To present an ultramarathon event annually between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban that promotes unity and is comprised of a race for competitive athletes that is also an accessible, inspirational and attainable challenge for otherwise ordinary individuals.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership of CMA shall be open to all persons who subscribe to the primary objectives of the CMA and who have applied for membership.

The Board shall have the right to refuse membership of the CMA to any persons provided that refusal is not based on religious or political belief, sex, nationality or race, any application for membership shall be submitted to the Board for approval or rejection.

If the application is approved the applicant, on payment of any subscription or fees which may be due, shall become an member subject to the rights and obligations of other members of CMA.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The obligation of an individual or organization to accept responsibility and account for one’s actions, activities and results and disclose them in a transparent manner, also including responsibility for tangible and intangible assets, funds and other entrusted property.

ALTRUISM

Selfless concern and contribution towards the well-being of others, including charitable acts and responsible corporate citizinship.

DIGNITY & RESPECT

The manner of treatment or care, that ethically supports and promotes, and does not undermine, a person’s inherent humanity and self-worth, regardless of any difference.

ENDURANCE

The steadfast ability and strength to last, withstand and/or prevail over long distance or period of time especially over hardship or adversity.

INTEGRITY

Strict adherence to a moral code aligned with ethics, attitudes and beliefs that is reflected in whatever one thinks, says and does, that is consistent inside and out, and whether anyone is watching or not.

TRANSPARENCY

The quality of openness, honesty and scrupulousness to bear public scrutiny, lack of hidden agendas and conditions, accompanied by the full disclosure and availability of information required for collaboration, cooperation, and collective decision-making.

UNITY & DIVERSITY

The motto on the SA National Coat of Arms which is drawn from the /Xam expression !ke e: /xarra // ke which literally means diverse people unite.

It is a call to all citizens to unite in a sense of belonging and pride that highlights and celebrates different people’s language, cultures and histories, a sense that South Africa has many identities, and are all South African.
