Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT)’s steadfast supporters and heroes have continued to shine the light of our mission of unconditional hope and love to the communities we serve. Providing holistic health, empowerment and education programmes for young and old, our mission has been a beacon of hope for many in the Valley of 1000 Hills where HACT has served since its inception in 1990.
With HIV and AIDS still prevalent public health issues in South Africa, there are few organisations left which focus on prevention, treatment and care. Issues of youth unemployment, gender-based violence, food insecurity and stigma still complicate South Africa’s HIV response and are issues HACT is tackling head-on with its vision of Healthy,
Empowered and AIDS-free communities.
One of the #HACTHEROs who have steadfastly partnered in this cause is Dean Wight. His enthusiasm in the Upper Highway and KwaZulu-Natal running communities, through his Beloved Long Runs brand, has been a pillar of support for HACT’s Comrades Campaign since 2018.
GEMS Spirit of Comrades Awards celebrates up to three individuals who are rewarded for embodying the true 'Spirit of the Comrades Marathon' and being an inspiration to humanity. Last year, after another successful campaign, we were delighted to learn that Dean won this award along with the CMA Top Fundraiser Award. This was the first year that any one person was privileged to won both prized awards in the same year!
With a heart dedicated to running and to people in his community, Dean has been an inspiration for many. Dean has harnessed his passion for running to help those who need it most. Since 2018, Dean has raised a whopping >R2.5 million for HACT and in 2023 Dean also completed his epic 30th Comrades.
Dean, along with all of our #RUN4HACT supporters, are heroes as they touch of the lives of many through each stride run and each rand raised. Thank you, Dean, for being part of the HACT family and for your ongoing support to the Valley of 1000 Hills communities directly on the Comrades route.
